THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS

The battle of Algiers is a historical war film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo in 1966.In the film we are shown the war between the two bands, the Colonizer Government and the revolutionaries, the Algerian National Liberation Front. A few years after the war concluded, the first Algerian Independet Government wanted the war to be known and decided to sign Pontecorvo to recreate the lived real scenes in the same way  they happened, with violent scenes and dramatic fights.

Imagen relacionadaIn the film the main character (Ali La Pointe), who is a robber, gets arrested and put in jails. During his stay in jails, he will see how the French militaries kill the civils in the gillotine, and he gest really angry. When he goes out he will enter in the revolutionary front and he will become the leader of it, fighting for the peace and freedom. During the film many torture and violent scenes will happen, and finally the Algerian civils will get free.

The theme of this film is basic: it shows the way many African countries fighted for they freedom against the colonizer European countries. In this case, the French Government used to kill the civils with no reason to threaten them, and they finally got free.

By the way, to make the film more appealing Gino signed a film music expert who gave the film another view. If there was a chance of being a boring film, with these little details it made it impossible not to like it.

To sum up, "The Battle of Algiers" is a very well shot film that shows the war in a real way, without false scenes, and makes you think about how tough has been for innocent African people to live in peace.
